Introduction to a regular type dude

Hello everyone. My name is Bailey Dennis. I am a Senior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am a History major. My best class I look last semester was American Military History. I learned a lot in this class and its always nice to take classes that directly pertains to your major. My biggest accomplishment last semester was passing all my classes and I hope to be able to continue this accomplishment. Something exiting I did over the break was go to Las Vegas for the first time. This was a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone. I do not recommend betting on Oklahoma to win - I'm still haven't gotten over that game. Anyways there is something for everyone to do in Vegas.

My career goals are to work in federal or possibly state law enforcement. I was in the military previously and this seems like a good next step for me. I do not have any pets but there is a stray cat I occasionally feed if that counts for anything. My favorite foods are tacos or really any Mexican, Tex-Mex type foods. My favorite food to cook is spaghetti because it is very easy and has a minimal cleanup. My least favorite foods are anything pickled or with vinegar in it. My hobbies are pretty normal, I like to watch football, go to the gym, and hunt and fish. Something exiting I have done is Cavern dive at Ginnie springs. This is scuba diving in an underwater cave where you stay close enough to see the exit. A fun hobby I would like to try is rock climbing. I have done it a few times at the indoor one here in Norman and it seems like it would be a lot more fun when you get good. If I had an extra day for fun, I would probably plan on doing a bunch of exiting and/or productive things to do, but then end up just sleeping in.

  1. Hey Bailey, it so cool that you are a history major. Also, thank you for your service!! Mexican is one of my favorite foods as well. Specifically Chipotle, I know thats cliche but it is pretty good. Also, the whole vinegar thing I agree with. I hate pickled foods no matter what it is. Im looking forward to getting to know you more over the semester and I hope you have a great semester!

  2. I didn't even know we had an American Military History class, Dennis; I bet that would be fascinating! Maybe you could do a military-history style approach with your project for this class. Although it's not exactly history, it's definitely military and the epics even contain detailed information about the battle formations that were used in these epic battles, like the Chakravyuha formation in the Mahabharata: Wikipedia: Chakravyuha ... or maybe a connection with rock climbing: there are some serious mountains to climb in India, and many of them have mythological associations, like the great Mount Kailash, abode of Shiva. I'm always on the lookout for ways that this class can connect to people's interests, and I hope you will enjoy the class! :-)

  3. Hey Bailey. Do you go by Bailey or Dennis? The class has you listed as Dennis, so I wasn't sure. If you like TexMex, you have to try a place here in Norman called Tarahumara's. It's on Porter just a little north of Main Street, and it is hands down the best TexMex restaurant I have ever been to. Cavern diving sounds incredibly awesome; I've never been scuba diving, but I love snorkeling so I've always wanted to. Also, if you like rock climbing, there are some "mountains" about an hour and a half away that have some pretty good rock climbing places. My friends and I go without equipment, so as long as you're careful and bring someone with you, it can be a great time! Mount Hood or Elk Mountain are where we usually go, and both have parking nearby. Best of Luck!

  4. Hi! Mexican food is definitely the best. You could say it is a staple in my town, as there are only three "restaurants" to choose from. Cave diving sounds very interesting, but was it not terrifying?! I love (well love if there are no fish near me) to snorkel and have always wanted to scuba dive but I have always been too afraid. Good luck this semester and nice to meet you!

  5. Hey Bailey, I have to second one of the above comments for Tarahumara's, all around it is good TexMex, personally my go to place for sit-down Mexican food. In regards for your desire to go rock climbing, OU does have a climbing club that goes on weekend trips frequently. In addition, they meet at the normal Climb Up several times a month (at reduced rates). If you are interesting in climbing that would be a good place to start!

  6. Hey there, Bailey!
I am happy to hear that you are enjoying your major and the different classes it offers! It sounds like you are finding your footing in school and doing well. I also love to fish! That has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was young. There is nothing that can really compare to being on the open water.

  7. Hi Bailey! It is so awesome that you want to work in law enforcement..that is such an important job and I am thankful for people like you who choose to do it. I went to the OU game in Pasadena and it was totally devastating..albeit, it was very entertaining! Thanks for sharing part of your story with us. I look forward to reading more.

  8. Hey Bailey, I also went to Las Vegas for the first time last summer and you it was a lot of fun, but we only stayed for two days because we were on a trip for only 7 days, I only got that many days off from my work so we had to make it special so we went to Arizona, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas it was really fun.

  9. Hi Bailey! I am a senior as well and I have a minor in history! I agree that it is so nice to take classes in your major, I always find myself doing better in those classes too. I also love Vegas! It really does have something for everyone, personally I love the food and drinks! Have a great semester!

  10. Hi Bailey!

I am also a senior at OU and I really like history, there are so many things that you can learn from history. I always find history classes to be interesting and I really like them too. I like Vegas too, I went there first time last summer with my friends and it was really awesome. I hope you have a great semester.

  11. Hey Bailey! I'm a senior too, and even though I'm not a history major, I've taken some really awesome classes in the department. I've had two classes with Dr. Levenson, and he's the best so I hope you've had the opportunity to take a class with him. I've never done indoor rock climbing, but I've been rock climbing in the ozark mountains a few times and I would highly recommend it!

  12. Hey Bailey!

It is awesome that you want to work in law enforcement! I always wondered what people do with a history degree other than teach, but seems like there are many options. Hope you get your job that you want! I can't wait to go scuba diving, it's on my bucket list, so hopefully I can go to many places! I will definitely check out Ginnie Springs!

  13. Hey Bailey!
I've always found my history classes pretty interesting, that's cool that you're majoring in that and plan to go into law enforcement! I was at the Rose Bowl and boy was it exciting, but it certainly didn't end the way I would've liked. I'm glad I didn't make any bets! I've wanted to go to Vegas for a while now, but just have never gotten the chance.
I'm from New Mexico, so I definitely understand your love for Mexican food! My favorite places in Norman are Tarahumara's for more authentic style, and Chuy's for more Tex-Mex, but nothing compares to the food back home.

  14. Hey Bailey! It was nice to get to know you a little bit. I'm glad to hear that you are making your way through all your classes and on your way to graduate. I too am a big fan of Mexican food but unlike everyone else, it seems, that stays here in Norman I am not a big fan of Tarahumara's food. I don't really know why but I would much rather go to Chuys or something. I really recommend El Tapitio in Whetherford OK if your ever in western Oklahoma! Well I hope you had a good spring break and good luck on the rest of the semester.

  15. Hey Bailey,
I am also a senior and so ready to graduate, congrats. My fiance is also a veteran and is now in the police academy at TPD. I wish you the best of luck with that and find someone who supports you. Sadly, I love pickles so we are the opposite of that but I do love me some Fuzzy's. Good luck with your last semester.

  16. Hi Bailey! I am from the Myth-folklore side of the class. I have never been to Vegas. I have never even been to a casino. My parents have been to Vegas though and I have heard that it is pretty awesome. Did you see any shows while there? Also, I have always wanted to go rock climbing, but have never actually gone to do it. Sounds fun!

  17. Hi Bailey! I've never been to Las Vegas, but a lot of people I know have gone and really enjoyed it. I absolutely think feeding a stray cat counts for something! In my neighborhood we have a stray cat my next door neighbors named Karen (before they found out he's a boy) that sleeps on everyone's porch and is very friendly. I love tacos and Mexican food as well. I've been eating way too many tacos from a delicious taco truck by my house recently, but how can you resist when they're only $1 a piece?

  18. Hey Bailey, it sounds like you always find a way to have a good time and an adventure, and enjoyed your stay in Vegas. I have been in Vegas but did not get to go anywhere, because it was just where my flight had to land due to inclement weather elsewhere several years ago. You will have to post if you find any good climbing walls, I have been looking for some around Norman but none have really caught my eye so far.

  19. Hello, Bailey!

This past spring break I went to Las Vegas for my first time, and wow, there are definitely a lot of things to do! My favorite part was just walking around the strip and going into all the restaurants and shops. I also do not have any pets, but there are a few stray cats around my apartment complex that love to come hang around my door, so I feed them when I can. Thank you for your service, and I hope you have a great rest of the year!

  20. Hi, Bailey! Congrats on getting to senior year! History has always been one of my favorite subjects so I am jealous that you get to study it all of the time. Having a goal to work in such a field is so respectable, if you ask me. I am in agreement…tacos are amazing. Thanks for sharing part of your story.

  21. Hey Bailey!
I really like the design and layout of your blog and I thought the picture you choose for your introduction complemented your post really well! I think its really cool that you want to work in law enforcement also my favorite food is Mexican too, especially tacos! I hope you are having a great semester so far and I can’t wait to explore the rest of your blog!

  22. Hello, Bailey!

That's so interesting how you are a History major. What inspired you to pursue this degree? Also, you mention your love for tacos and spaghetti but have you ever tried spaghetti tacos? They are muy delicioso and I 10/10 recommend! I've never rock climbed, maybe because I am afraid of heights and my athletic capabilities are little to none (lol!). Anyway, it's nice to meet you and I wish you the best of luck with finals!

  23. Hey Bailey I really enjoyed reading your Introduction. It seems like you have a pretty amazing life throughout your college career. I like food to but I will never be picky haha. i like food to much. But i want to visit LasVegas too, i heard it is a lovely place to go. I get excited to see all the different blogs my classmates made, i see a lot of people took time designing their pages.

  24. Hey Bailey! I really like how you did your introduction. Passing classes is all any of us can hope for and I'm happy to hear that your staying on track (I've extended my stay here a bit by not lol). Vegas sounds like it would be fun, although personally it's not my cup of tea. It's cool that you want to get into federal or state law enforcement. It will be tough but given your past military experience I'm sure you can more than handle it.

  25. Hey, Bailey, nice to meet you even though its the end of the semester. Feeding the stray cat totally counts as having a pet. Cats choose their people, it's not the other way around. I too have a great love of tacos, specifically of taco trucks. Vegas sounds super fun, my buddies and I have been trying to plan a trip for years. Someday we'll all manage to get off work at the same time. I hope your finals go well!

  26. Hi Bailey! I was a history major for a semester, but switched to Letters so I could do more in addition to history. That's so interesting that you were in the military. My little brother just signed up for the Army Reserves. I don't know much about how the military works so even though "reserves" sounds nice, I've been kind of freaking out! I hope you have a great summer!

  27. Hey Dennis again, I never met that many history majors and it amazes me that people love to learn about any type of history, because at times I get headaches learning about it. But there are some things that I like to learn about. I am a military dependent so I think people who serve deserve a lot of respect, but good luck in life and all the things that are awaiting for you.

  28. Hey Bailey, I think its cool you wanna be in some sort of law enforcement! I went to Vegas awhile back to visit my brother who is in the air force. It was a great time and they had some really cool and crazy things to do. We saw the blue man group and it was much better than I had thought it was going to be. Also, the food we had thee was amazing. We went to Gordan Ramsey's restaurant and it was absolutely delicious. Best of luck!
